Hello, I'm Tricia Atkin. My role as a Counsellor is to provide you with a safe environment to explore emotional problems and patterns that are causing you distress and preventing you from moving forward. You may be experiencing one or more of these issues and benefit from my counselling service:

I'm a Counsellor and a Mental Health Social Worker. --- Trained in psychology and as a mental health social worker, I have worked in the public mental health system and in private practice. I have 15 years of clinical experience.

These are the ways that you can access my counselling service:

  • As a private client. There is no need for any referral. I see both adults and children.
  • By obtaining a referral from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. If you are eligible, your GP or specialist will complete a letter of referral and a Mental Health Care Plan. Currently a Medicare Rebate of $71.95 per 50 minute consultation is currently available for up to 10 consultations in a calendar year.
  • If you want to address psychological and mental health issues, in order to return to work through Workcover, you must obtain a written referral from your GP.
  • If you're registered with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, you can get a written referral from your GP.

About Tricia Atkin

  • I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). I am bound by their Code of Ethics and I regularly attend professional development activities.
  • I'm also an accredited Mental Health Social Worker with Medicare.
  • I have been employed in a variety of roles including as a senior clinician in community adult mental health services, child and adolescent mental health and suicide intervention.
  • I have a particular interest in grief counselling.
  • The techniques I use are numerous and varied and include emotion management and resilience, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, life skills training, psychotherapy and interpersonal therapy.
